Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for STEP at Old Westbury, a student must:
be enrolled in grades 7–12
be economically disadvantaged as per state guidelines, or identify as underrepresented in the STEM fields and licensed professions: Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Alaskan-Native or American Indian
have a GPA of 70 and above
be a New York State resident for at least one year
“Black or African American”: a person having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa.
“Hispanic or Latino”: a person whose origins are from Spain, the Spanish-speaking countries of Central or South America, or the Dominican Republic. People who identify their origin as Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino may be of any race.
“American Indian”: a person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America, including Central America, and who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment.
